Raspberries
This morning Carter, Nevana and I picked some raspberries from our bushes in the front yard - they are loaded...and it only took us about 30 min. to get two yogurt containers overflowing! (ok it took ME 30 min.....Carter holds his bucket it one hand, and picks with his other hand. And yet no raspberries end up in the bucket....) And I know 30 min. isn't very fast for that amount, I put in many a summer in the patches - but supervising a 2 year old, and have a baby in my carrier kinda slowed down the process....
Sneaking another one....
They are delicious, and of course, organic :-) Friday, June 26, 2009
Detergent
I always have a hard time finding laundry detergent that I like for my HE wash machine. I find there aren't a lot of options out there, and usually it is pricey. Well, after last nights cloth diapering seminar, I decided to look again for a "recommended" detergent. Cloth diapers can be fussy you see - because you don't want any residue left on them, or the absorption will be (for lack of a better word) crappy. I went to Wal-Mart and looked one more time. The only option fragrance free for an HE machine was a little bottle of Tide Free. I passed on it.
This afternoon I am talking to my SIL - a cloth diapering mom herself - and a source of wonderful knowledge on anything and everything baby and child - and she suggested a detergent found at London Drugs called Country Save. It is a highly recommended detergent for cloth diapers because it is dye free, fragrance free, biodegradable and HE compatible!! I was quickly hesitant about the price....London Drugs - specialty detergent.....argh.
I look at every detergent down the aisle....the last brand on the top shelf. Country Save. On sale....$5.99!!! For a box that can do 80 loads of wash - not to mention you use even less for the diapers!
John got to hear about how excited I was about this detergent all the way home. And I am still so excited - I just had to blog about it.
SO - for all you cloth diapering mommas out there, or anyone looking for a good natural detergent - Country Save - at London Drugs. Can't beat the price!

Fruitaholic
The word I made up for my son. He loves fruit of any kind - apples, bananas, grapes, plums, watermelon, raspberries, strawberries, oranges....you name it. The two stranger ones, that are some of his all time favourites are grapefruit (doesn't matter how sour) and tomatoes (which he doesn't get from me!).
There are countless examples of my sons "fruitaholic" nature....he will push the chair to the counter, so he can grab a whole apple - and just start eating it. He usually brings me one too - which is pretty funny. One time an apple was keeping him busy while I was in the mall. When I went to check on his progress - the entire thing was gone. Nothing remained - no seeds, no core. Eaten. All of it.
So today while I was preparing lunch I gave him one of those unsweetened apple sauce fruit cups. Less than 2 minutes later, I look back at him and he has spooned ALL of the apple sauce into his mouth, and is licking out the container.
Lets just say - he loves it, any kind, any where, and time....

one day.
I know jealousy is not a becoming attribute - however, reading this blog lately has made me feel that way.
And yesturday, amidst the chaos that is dinner time, I admitted that sometimes, I just can't wait till we are 50 (well ok - I will be 50, John will be almost 60) and we can pack up and leave to some campground, and do - and John blurts out "nothing!!" (like he has ever been able to do "nothing" one day in his life.) But we did share a moment in dream land about how we will just read all morning, take a nap in the afternoon, and enjoy each others company in peaceful serenity. Yes, in 25 years, this could be a reality. Then John says - but I am sure we will have many wonderful times camping before then as well! Yes, this was a good point. They will be wonderful as well - just maybe not as laid back as my original dream.

Children's Festival

This past weekend we took the kids to the Children's Festival in Mission. Carter enjoyed some of the activities. He sat perfectly still for the face painting. We were pretty surprised. He tried out mini golf, and loved the music station where he could play along (tambourine, clave, shakers, or drums) to different songs being performed. I can see him being more into it in a year or so - but it was still fun regardless.

And a picture of Nevana from the other day. Just beacuse it was the first time she wore a cute little hair clip :0)

Stats
For anyone interested - here are the 2 month stats of our little girly
weight: 13 lbs. 13 oz. (100th percentile)
height: 23 1/2" (93rd percentile)
So - she is growing fairly well.....I looked back on Carter's 2 month size, and though she may seem big, he was 15 lbs. 6 oz. at his 2 month shots!
